Wednesday evening Shemara invited us to join her at the Macquarie Group Emerging Artist Prize event…a wonderful opportunity to see Indigenous artists and experience where she works.

Welcoming speech
Judge and winning artist
With the receptionist who worked at Macquarie when Ed and Shemara started there, now in her 80s!
With colleagues

It was really great to meet Shemara’s colleagues, all of whom I really liked!

More colleagues
Shemara told one of the serving staff that I’m “vegan” (a bad vegan is what I call myself, especially eating seafood and dairy on this trip!), so he brought me my own plate of vegan appetizers!
With the winning artist, Marisa Ballinger

My sister-in-law is the most down-to-earth executive ever
She’s also a chocoholic!!

Macquarie

Our last day in Sydney, we went to see an excellent modern production of Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando.” All of the versions of Orlando were played by trans or nonbinary actors, putting a new spin on the gender messages in the book.

Ed also made us two excellent meals…he’s a very talented chef and enjoys cooking vegan.

Friday morning Ed got up early with us to take us to the airport!

Gillybros

Unfortunately our flight left about an hour and 15 minutes late, which would cause a change of plans later for our 1-hour planned layover in Hong Kong!

Leaving Sydney

I loved Australia but was looking forward to having Mike all to myself and revisiting our old haunts.

Onto our next adventure: back to Asia!
