This week’s Monday Listicle is Ten Foods. So here are ten foods (or cuisines) I adore:

1. Anything Asian…Indian, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Malaysian…my absolute favorite cuisines. Wish we had more Indonesian and Malay restaurants around here.

2. Berries. Raspberries, blackberries, and marionberries are my favorites, but I’ll also take huckleberries, blueberries, and strawberries.
It’s a good thing I live in the Pacific Northwest, where berries are abundant!

3. Salmon, halibut, trout, lobster, crab, prawns, clams, any kind of (good-quality) seafood. This summer I had raw oysters for the first time at the encouragement of my friend Catherine, and they were delicious. Another reason to feel fortunate to live in the Pacific Northwest–our seafood is fantastic!

4. My homemade whole wheat pita chips, made with olive oil and lots of salt and pepper, from the Good Food Great Medicine cookbook. I cooked up two batches last week in preparation for recuperation from my surgery.

5. Homemade muesli from the same cookbook, which I eat every morning for breakfast…ideally with berries. I also made a large batch of muesli to tie me over until I’m back on my feet.

6. Beverages of choice: really good coffee and tea, red wine, Prosecco sparkling wine, a good mojito or salty dog, or water with lime. I’m a snob about beer, coffee, and tea…if it’s not good, I’d rather go without.
7. Anything with nuts…nuts make everything better!
8. Fair trade dark chocolate. In the past few years I’ve been eating fewer desserts, eschewing most processed sugars and flours…and often when I have dessert it’s too sweet for me. My one indulgence is dark chocolate, which is just sweet enough, but not too sweet. And I still love fruit desserts (like berry crisp), flan, and creme brulee. I also have a bad weakness for chocolate chip cookie dough. I used to love fudge, but I suspect it’s too sweet for me now.

9. Zucchini patties. This was my favorite childhood comfort food. I’ve enhanced my mom’s saltine, grated zucchini, and egg recipe and now add other veggies and herbs. I love squash in most forms…zucchini being just one of them.

10. Basil, mint, and rosemary anything. Fresh garden tomatoes with basil and mozzarella…or mint tea..or rosemary chicken. I love fresh garden vegetables in the summer!

One of the holiday items I look forward to buying is silk nog (soy milk). When I was eating regular cookies, I liked the Trader Joe’s candy cane Jo Jos and anything with pumpkin (for example, pumpkin scones).

What are some of your favorite foods? Check out the other listicles at www.northwestmommy.com.

I have never heard of marionberries. Must Google.I would love to see your recipe for the zucchini cakes. And I am with you on the basil, mint, and rosemary. I'm always so sad when the frost finally gets my basil and mint. Good thing I have a 6 foot in diameter rosemary bush to comfort me until spring. 🙂 Ellen

Omg, Candy Cane Joe-Joes. I bought a box but only eat 2 at a time. It's hard, but trying to park at TJ's is even harder. 😉

I remember when I first tried fried oysters when living in Japan, and I loved them. My friend is an oyster freak, so she finally convinced me to give them a try. I had three!

I think they originate from Oregon. They are yummy!!I will try to get you a recipe–can't remember what I did last time, but I think I used something online. I too have an enormous rosemary bush–those things never die!! 🙂

Haha–you are right! I don't eat them any more because of the processed flour, but I might have to make one tiny exception this year!! Maybe if I eat only two at a time I'll be good.

Oh man, I so miss living on the Left Coast! The seafood is so much better (well, except for the Lobster, which we eat everyday when we visit Boston!).

I am with you with the exception of the nuts. Since they could kill me, I tend to disagree that they make things better. My wife however…
